This jar is one of my more recent acquisitions (I'm writing this in May
2008). I saw this jar years ago at a Muncie show and always remembered
it but as the years went by, I somehow had transformed it in my mind into
another jar with the same name, "Imperial" but which was a figural with a
hand holding a mace. When I spoke to the owner recently and he told me
he might be willing to sell, I was very excited thinking I would be getting
an unreported amber version of the jar with the hand holding a mace.
We both talked over a price and both referred to it as "the Imperial Jar".
When I got it and realized the misunderstanding, I had to renogotiate
because while this is a fantastic jar (and the only one that I'm aware of)
it really wouldn't compare with the figural version which had never been
reported. In the end, we came to a figure we were both happy with and
the deal went through and we're both happy.
Regardless, as I mentioned, I believe that this may be the only HG
example. There is a quart size reported in the Red Book so I suppose
there must be one of those out there somewhere (although occasionally the
Red Book will mention a jar which is only known through shards, so it's
presence doesn't necessarily mean that a complete mint example exists out
there). I'm very pleased with the jar. It has a lovely orange
amber shade and an interesting closure. All these jars come with clear
closures so this can't be counted agains the amber too heavily.
