This is probably the most common black glass jar. Like most, if not
all, jars this was made by Hemingray. It has a glass lid with a zinc
band as a closure. The Royal has a bit of an odd ring since it has a
couple of metal pieces sticking up on the outside. These were intended
to allow a screwdriver some leverage to help remove the lid.
This jar has a much rarer cousin in the black
Royal of 1876.
