This is a black quart mason with no obvious distinguishing features until you turn it upside down and look at the bottom.  On this particular jar you see a beautiful stylized "2".  These particular stylized numbers indicate that the jar was made by the Hemingray Glass Works.  I think that this jar is actually rarer than the ones with the reverse embossing although those probably hold more interest for collectors.
