These "Patent Sept 18, 1860" jars are fairly common in aqua but I've
never seen another in this deep cornflower/light cobalt colration.
It's unlisted in the Red Book (the stand book of jar prices) in spite of
fact that I've mentioned it to Doug Leybourne, the author, several times.
Anyway, this is a jar I bought in the famous 1976 National Bottle Show in
St. Louis. People who were at that show have a special place in their
hearts for it. It was huge and many big collections were shown off,
including the one and only time that the famous Alex Kerr jar collection was
ever displayed publicly. I was in high school and had saved up as much
as I possibly could to buy jars at the show. I managed somehow to get
some great jars at this show for relatively little. I payed $80 for
this jar which was a bit more than an aqua would go for. It would take
a lot more than that to separate the jar from me today.
One of my favorites!
