This is a beautiful smokey olive amber Lightning jar.  The fellow who sold it to me as part of a collection thought it was an incredibly singular color.  I don't know that I'm quite ready to go that far, but it is certainly a great color.

Notice the "Blaske" sticker on the side.  It's an indication that this was once sold by the Blaske auction house.  I leave it on just for some information.  It would be interesting to try to find the catalog in which it was sold.

I should also mention something I haven't mentioned elsewhere.  Non-collectors normally refer to this type of closure as a "wire bail".  Collectors refer to it as a "Lightning" type closure, referring to this type of jar.  I'm not sure whether it originated with the Lightning jar but I can't think of an earlier jar which uses it.  It was used on beer bottles too I believe for a time.  There are various versions of it over the years.  The version most common on the Lightning is the old style shown here with a wire around the bottle and a tab which the bail fits into.  Later on, jars would have a spot molded into the glass for this purpose.
